The EmpowerHer is a program designed to empower and train survivors of gender-based violence on the future of work through digital skills. It also aims to help survivors add more value to themselves and society irrespective of their experience. The advancement of technology and the internet in our society has made digital skills a requirement for everyone. It is already an essential skill for many jobs and that number will only rise in the coming years.

However, the Nigerian tech ecosystem is mainly dominated by men, and only a few women and girls are actively involved in the sector. The gender disparity in the technology sector in Nigeria is a reflection of the African and global realities. The psychological effect on survivors sometimes alienates and makes survivors lose their self-confidence and esteem. These adversely affect their willpower to work or resume normal life activities. Sometimes, survivors are faced with going back to their abusers as a result of financial gain, hence the need to train and empower survivors through digital skills for a decent job to attain financial freedom.

The EmpowerHer program will be implemented in 3 major component areas:

  1. Intensive Counselling:
  2. Digital Skill training: The skills will cut across Digital Marketing, Graphics Design, Data Analysis, Productivity tools, Emotional
Intelligence, Communication, and, Employability skills. These skills will also prepare them for the future of work as these skills are in high demand. It will also serve as a means of recuperating as learning something new can help ease trauma and pain.
